The Legislative Branch
*The legislative branch has two sections that are included in it, Parliament and the Senate.
*The legislative’s main function: to make laws and oversee them afterwards.
*Before laws are effective they have to get passed by the senate a second time.
*Parliament sits between September and June.
*The leader of the party who wins the most seats makes up the government
*Current party in the government is the Conservative party run by Stephen Harper*The party who gets the second most seats then become the official opposition
*Current Opposition is the NDP's (New Democratic Party) lead by Interim leader Nycole Turmel*Two parties debate throughout the year about different decisions that have been made during what they call, question period in the house of commons.
