Poverty and how to measure it
- NGO (non govermental organization) was put in place in effort to try to help solve poverty
- Most poor countries/ developing countries have none or unreliable infrastructure
- The world is measured in its terms of development and new industrialization versus developing countries that base it on industry and infrastructure
- HIPC (highly indebted poor countries) are developing countries that are in high debt to a developed country
Poverty Line
- Developed regions have different ways of measuring there poverty line than those countries that are well developed
- One dollar a day is a standard that is set for the poverty line (1.3 billion people below that)
- Majority of countries determine there poverty line by the number of people ethat cannot afford basic services such as food, shelter, clothing etc..
- Recently Canadas changed its poverty line to a set income figure
- It was changed/redefined as 56% of the averages family income was spent on life necessities
- Economic freedom is also a way that quality of life can be measured. Freedom of a safe and clean environment as well as freedom of expression
Summary: With all the worlds people living in poverty, there have been many different ways (depending on the region or country) that that poverty line is established.
