The FLQ and October Crisis, 1970
- FLQ (Front de libération du Quebec) is a group formed in the 60's that used violence to achieve their goals
- Consisted of mostly youths that had training in guerrilla warfare
- 200 political actions like bombing and bank robbings were committed 63-70
- British Trade Commisionner James Cross was kidnapped by you FLQ members on October the fifth 1970
- 500 000$ and transportation to cuba was demanded as a ransom along with the permission to read the FLQ manifesto, publicly, and the release of all FLQ "political "prisonners"
- OCTOBER CRISIS:
- Five days later they kindnapped Vice-premier Pierre Laporte
- Laporte wrote a letter to premier robert bourse wanting him to give in
- Laporte's dead body was found in the back of a car on Oct. 17th
- Trudeau agreed to transport five FLQ members to Cuba as well as permission to read the manifesto aloud in exchange for james cross
Summary
During the candian october crisis, 1970, two political members were kidnapped by the FLQ and murduring one. In efforts to smooth things one, Prime Minister Trudeau proposed the war measures act.
