Prime Minister Bennett and the Depression
*Bennett was not in favour of relief
*Although he did give 20 million for work creation programs-bridges,roads,canals etc.
*He raised tariffs which was a big mistake ( other countries did the same as well)
*He became a target for peoples frustration
*"Bennett Barnyard", "Bennett Buggy", "Bennett Coffee"
*He Banned the Communist Party in 1931 - as he feared jobless would get influenced and have a communist uprising in Canada, like in Russia
*Created work camps for unemployed single men
*Work Camps - you had to be a single man and unemployed. Working either in mines or in forestry, small amount of money but you get a place to live and you get food.
*Conditions in the work camps though were terrible.

Summary
Prime Minister Bennet was elected because the population thought that he would be the solution to all their problems and help them out exponentially unlike King did. As it turns out though Bennett did they exact opposite he actually did less then King and the things he did either backfired or ended up not helping after all.
