Passchendaele
*The city of Passchendaele is very close to the city of Ypres in Belgium
*The battle of Passchendaele took place from 1914-1917
*Germany first took possession of the small town in 1914
*Shortly afterwards the British Expeditionary Force (BEF) tried to take it back
*Germans lost 135,000 trying to regain it
* The BEF lost 75,000 defending it
*The second battle for Ypres (Passchendaele) would take place in april of 1915
*This second attack for the Germans was quite noted, first time they used their Chlorine gas
*The defending troops fled in terror, germans advanced 7km
*The creeping barrage was now perfected
*Allies advance using this method
*First line was taken easily, second line had stiffer machinery
*Worst weather in 75 years, attacks halted and postponed until august 10th
*Most men lost in the battlefield in the mud were never found
*Allies lost 35 men for every meter gained (300,000 men) , Germans lose 260,000
